While doing my sketches of the objects, I tried to use a variety of pencils to create different weights of line. I found that after much observation each object had line that were present, but not always visible (especially cage volume drawings). It was difficult for me to capture line in 3 dimensions. I spent a lot of time developing craft, trying to make sure that all of the wire connections didn't create too much weight. The lifter is powering upward, and the spring-like arms and legs represent the power he is using. This piece captures the strong gestures of a weightlifter, who is expressing power upward and outward. Three-dimensional muscles increase the depth and volume of the sculpture, making it viewable from all angles. I coiled the wires to add weight to the power-using areas. The sketches over-defined the muscles, just like the wire sculpture. The drawing is very porportional, whereas the sculpture is more exaggerated in the arms and legs to show the powerful gesture of the image.
